A4 Holding: 2024 summer exodus management plan arranged
18 July 2024

A4 Holding has once again this year arranged the specific “Summer Exodus Management Plan”, which aims to keep infrastructure at their best, during the period with high traffic flows related to vacation travel, thus ensuring the safety and fluidity of traffic on the 236 km of section under its jurisdiction.

If it is true that in August – except week-ends – A4 from Brescia to Padova and A31 Valdastico undergo traffic decrease (in particular heavy vehicular one) due to the company holiday period, on the other hand, it turns out to be always very sustained light traffic exiting the tollbooths affected by the tourist flow directed to Lake Garda and to the amusement parks (Sommacampagna-Peschiera-Sirmione-Desenzano-Brescia Est), as well as to the Asiago and Folgaria Plateau (Piovene Rocchette).

As a matter of fact, after a first half of 2024 that showed for the A4 Brescia-Padova and A31 Valdastico overall a slight decrease in average daily traffic (-0.22%) with the same number of kilometers traveled (+0.3%) compared to the same period in 2023, mainly due to adverse weather conditions that greatly reduced weekend highway travel for light vehicles, from the data of several surveys carried out (Ministry of Tourism, Assoturismo, Demoskopika, etc.) now expects a tourist season with increasing travel and a record year for vacationers, particularly in the Veneto region.

The highway concessionaire’s organizational machinery has therefore planed a reinforcement of services on the network under its jurisdiction, starting next weekend, July 19, where particularly intense, if not severe, is expected in the case of the section between Sommacampagna (VR) and the junction with the A22 Brennero Pass
Forecasts prepared by A4 Holding also predict heavy traffic for all upcoming weekends in July and August on the entire A4 Brescia-Padova section in the direction of Venice, and in particular on Friday afternoons and on Saturdays and Sundays at the Peschiera del Garda, Sirmione and Desenzano toll booth in the direction of the lakes.

The company has deliberately suspended all works on the two concession motorways until September 16, with the expectation of urgent and non-postponable works and activities to be carried out on the external links and bypasses managed by the company.

To avoid further slowdowns and inconveniences for travelers on the sections under A4 Holding concession, a total of 257 toll gates are active (177 served by electronical toll collection) and, to facilitate the flow of tourists to the lakes and plateaus, the toll service will be reinforced every weekend until September with additional staff at 5 specific toll booths (Sommacampagna, Peschiera, Sirmione, Desenzano and Piovene Rocchette) for a total of 40 booths between entry and exit.

Arrangements have also been made to increase the number of Traffic Auxiliaries (the personnel in charge of rescue and assistance operations on the route), which in the coming weeks will involve 40 people working in various day and night shifts at the head of a fleet of 20 vans.

Light mechanical rescue workshops will then be deployed, on average every 10 kilometers for light vehicles and every 30 kilometers for heavy vehicles, and in any case near highway toll booths, with an additional 10 maintenance workers ready to ensure the rapid deployment of tow trucks.

To combat excessive fatigue behind the wheel, A4 Holding will offer drivers coffee on Saturdays and Sundays at the Truck Park Brescia Est, starting this weekend and running through August 25.

On the routes under their jurisdiction, 14 service areas will be permanently active, 5 of which will be equipped with charging points for electric cars (Monte Baldo Ovest, Monte Baldo Est, Scaligera Ovest, Tesina Est and Limenella Ovest), for a total of 11 charging points, in addition to the 2 existing inside the Truck Park Brescia Est.

Last but not least, this summer will also see the best possible provision of information to users, thanks to the numerous variable message signs and mobile vans, the use of the network of radio stations operating in the area and the consultation of the Infoviaggiando.it website, which provides motorists with all the useful information on traffic and road conditions on the networks managed by the three North-East concessionaires, which can also be consulted via the app and, as of this year, via the Telegram instant messaging application.
